This is one my "heart strings pulled" projects in Homemade Fun. I always loved making little pouches and this project lends itself to just about anyones taste and materials on hand. We have a lot of denim cut offs from summer and it's good to use up this leftover sturdy fabric.
G made this as one her first sewing projects. As you can see, like anything, we start off simple and imperfect yet we get there somehow with a finished piece. Refinement of this technique comes later. Starting and completing a simple sewing project is a very rewarding process.
In the process kids learn to measure and cut from a template, learn a basic stitch (in this case I recommend blanket stitch but it could be the easy up and down stitch too- anything to keep the seams together), and sew on a button.
Plus it's handy!
